The Next Big Thing
[dropcap type=”square” text=”T” text_color=”#ffffff” bg_color=”#ff8c00″]he Next Big Thing blog entry, a long time in the making! I meant to do this a few weeks ago but was waiting on a few authors to join in on it with me but alas most had already taken part or just didn’t respond. If you are an author feel free to take these questions and answer them on your blog and challenge other authors to do the same!
What is the working title of your book?
The working title of my manuscript is Why We Start Fires and has a very important meaning to the novel itself.
Where did the idea come from for the book?
The idea came to me one night at work. I’m not sure exactly what brought it to my mind but by the end of my shift I had the beginning, middle and end mapped out.
What genre does your book fall under?
It is a period drama as it is set back during The Great Depression.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Why We Start Fires would definitely need strong actors who could pull off the heavily emotional tale. Logan Lerman would not be a bad choice for the lead role of Noah with Philip Seymour Hoffman as Bill, Chloe Grace Moretz as Sara, John Goodman as Dr. Sadler, Andrew Garfield as Nathan, Laura Linney as Claire and possibly Alyssa Shafer as Anna. It is a little difficult choosing an actress for a role so young as Anna.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Why We Start Fires follows the trials of Noah Bishop, a 17 year old kid who is thrust into adulthood when his mother passes away leaving him and his sister Anna alone with their recently turned alcoholic step-father Bill and when he turns to abuse Noah will stop at nothing to keep his sister safe.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I will be self-publishing Why We Start Fires with hopes of it doing well enough to bring offers in from agencies.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
My manuscript is still a work in progress and I have been working on it off and on for about 7 months now. I hope to have it finished in early spring with a late spring release.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I would like to think my story is pretty original and does not relate to many other books in the way that I am presenting it.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Nothing exactly inspired this story, just one of the many ideas that come flowing into my mind while I am at work.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Why We Start Fires deals with many aspects of the darker side of life. Alcoholism, abuse, death, poverty and shows the steps people will take to better their lives during this time. A dark story with shades of hope and compassion. Showing that even during the dark times there is still light to be found.
Thank you for checking out The Next Big Thing and hope to have more details soon for you about Why We Start Fires!
